On the European Red List, 132 species of chondrichthyes have been assessed. Chondrichthyes are the members of the diverse group of cartilaginous fishes that includes the sharks, skates, rays, and chimaeras (the elasmobranchs).
So far: 15 species are Critically Endangered (CR), 17 species are Endangered (EN), 10 species are Vulnerable (VU), 14 are Near Threatened (NT/LR), 27 are Data Deficient (DD) and 48 are Least Concern (48).
Not a positive picture, as the Data Deficient species could be Endangered, Vulnerable or Near Threatened as well.
Many of these species or lesser known dogfish or lanternsharks, that could already be overfished, like the arrowhead dogfish (Deania profundorum).
